Welcome “All Our Yesterdays” (here’s why it’s called that)
Every day since December 31 2021 I’ve been posting at least one “on this day” blog post – sometimes more, and sometimes interviews and essays connected to what is THE fundamental problem for our species and every other species on this planet. That problem is… drum roll please… the rapid (geologically, not even an eye-blink) heating of the earth, caused by the release and burning of enormous quantities of oil, coal and gas (“fossil fuels”). The blanket of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, that has always stopped some heat from the sun bouncing back into space, is now getting thicker and thicker, trapping more and more heat.
In 2025 AOY will continue with the daily “climate” posts but ALSO
- a) lots of “non-climate” posts (carefully flagged so if you don’t want to read, you don’t have to). These are because I am a curious guy who likes to read and write
- b) more about the “what needs to be done, even though it is too late” question.
Let me know what you think, what you’d like to see.
This site will give perspectives on what has happened, what the context was, what we can learn, what happened next, in fields such as the science, policy, technology and protest.
The tl:dr is this – we’ve been studiously not doing anything about climate change for a very long time (that’s not strictly true – we’ve been making it much worse). If we want to get different results, we’re going to need to do things differently. There are, believe it or not, some things we could do differently…
