Welcome “All Our Yesterdays” (here’s why it’s called that).
This is a resource for people who want to know more about the long long history of warnings about carbon dioxide build-up in the atmosphere. Short version – there were scattered warnings, theoretical and easily ignored, until the 1950s. From the 1950s to the mid-1970s concern grew among scientists, ‘environmentalists’ and a few politicians. By the late 1970s some people were beginning (rightly, it turned out) to freak out about the dangers ahead (see the CO2 Newsletter for more about this.) The carbon dioxide problem finally became a political issue in 1988. Since then, the fossil fuel lobbies have done everything they could (which is a lot) to confuse the public, suborn the politicians and the academics. We are now so deeply in the shit that returning (if it were in fact possible) were as tedious as go o’er.
