Scientists are not activists (well, not until recently, and even then a statistically insignificant number). The expectation that someone who knows about carbon dioxide or earth systems should be able to influence policymakers, or communicate their findings to mass publics is demanding a lot (some would say too much). YES there are venal/stupid scientists – they’re human. But blaming the scientists for not having “woken everyone up” is finger-pointing. The real blame lies with civil society more generally, imo.
