Kayfabe is the name for the playacting that wrestlers and audiences do (about who is a heel, a face, who has “feuds” with who). Everybody knows it is “made up” but it is in everyone’s (various) interests to go along with it.
Ditto for climate – everyone going along with nakedly insane stories, soothing lullabies of fakery around the efficacy of carbon markets, technology, whatever.
