If they agree to be on some consultative panel then they have to sign non-disclosure agreements, they have to go along with shitty decisions and defend them in public, bleeding their credibility.
If they don’t agree, they can be dismissed as radicals, purists, unwilling to “do” politics, which is all about “compromise”.
Physics, famously, always compromises with what humans want.
